Kevin McBride

It is with a saddened heart that we learn of the passing of one of our swimming communities’ most dedicated coaches and officials. Kevin McBride passed away yesterday May 30th of a heart attack. Our regrets and condolences go out to Kim, Karissa, Kiel, & Kameron & their entire extended family . Kevin and I have worked together since the 1980 s when he started at High Ridge YMCA. He has always been available for any team I was involved with and always had the best interest of the children in mind. At the beginning of every swim season when we discussed scheduling, Kevin always said to me ….   “Jim, I’ll do what ever you need me to do”.  I heard those words 3 weeks ago and will hear them echo at the beginning of every season to come.

For all those who had the pleasure of working with Kevin ( and there are many) I am sure you know the dedicated heart that Kevin brought to any swim team, swim meet, or  individual having a conversation with him.

The Lincolnwood Lightnings, Lincolnwood Park District, YMCA, and Illinois Swimming have lost a member that will be missed each and every day in the future.

Visitation will be  at Donnellan Funeral Home -  10045 Skokie Blvd. Skokie, Illinois 60077-1026

2010 Conference Meet Report

About the 2010 Conference Meet
Lincolnwood Lightnings were the host to all the A Conference Meet
What great weather we had on the day of the meet Wednesday July 27th.
I think it was because we had a plan for bad weather in effect
We hoped that if we would prepare for the temporary thundershower it may not occur  LOL
Thank you for your compliments on our meet and your cooperation in helping us run a successful meet
We did have 3 officials cancel late in the day – I want to thank those who stepped up to officiate
The pool staff did an excellent job supporting the meet
Kevin, Lance, Kersti & Tamar ran the meet without a flaw
And Paul was entertaining as usual with his subliminal  ((barnaby’s – barnaby’s)) message
We had Peter, who was on the other end of Paul’s Walkee Talkee at the team area to call events to the Bull Pen with his blow horn
Kate and Dena kept everyone happy all day
with heat prizes & T shirts,
Mrs. Barbour was a runner all day, & she labeled awards, even for the other teams, and put as many awards in the mailboxes as she could
The awards boxes were full – If you forgot to pick up your awards at the BBQ last year, They will be in the conference room at the pool after the season begins
Jess posted results, helped with the 8 & Unders & was a runner as well
Kim ran a an incredibly efficient bull pen for the entire day
A special thanks to those who timed and to the coaches who helped our lightning’s remain undefeated for yet another year

Go Lightning's!!
Thanks to all who helped in their special ways
There were many parents who volunteered off & on through out the day.

And what a day of surprises !!!
Our very own Lightning Coaches Medley Relay won their own event, "The Coaches Relay"
Cherianne(back), Peter(breast), Lyndsay(Fly) & Lance (Free)
I have attached a PDF of the results of the 2010 Conference Meet

Reschedule of Parent Meeting & First Meet 6/23 Reminder

Parents

It appears that the storm will be arriving at 4:30 to 5 or during our practice time tonight. With Friday traffic and the rain it will not be good to have this meeting. I believe the storm is moving quickly but the lightning detector may not clear the pool for us to have a sufficient practice either. As a result of this situation, Practice is Canceled for tonight as well as the Parent Meeting

We will reschedule our parent meeting for Monday night 6/21, same time 6:15pm.Your swimmers will be finishing practice as we meet.

Also Re: Wednesday 6/23

If your swimmer wants to swim in this coming Wednesday’s meet, Remember to have them sign up for the meet at Monday practice at the latest. The sign up sheets are in the activity room next to the concession area. The River Trails Sheets are removed on Monday and replaced with the next meets sheet, Norridge.
